Jozef Konings obtained his PhD in Economics at the London School of Economics in 1994, where he was a student of Nobel prize winner Christopher Pissarides.

Since 2004, he is a full professor in economics at the University of Leuven and director of the Center for Regional Economic Policy (VIVES). Jozef Konings is currently on leave from KU Leuven to join the University of Liverpool Management School as the subject group head in economics. Also, he is a research fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR, London). Konings’ research focuses on firm competitiveness, international macroeconomics, and micro drivers affecting macroeconomic fluctuations. He has been involved in numerous research projects from the EU, the OECD, the Asian Development Bank and other institutions. Konings has published various papers in leading academic journals, such as the American Economic Review, The Review of Economics and Statistics, The Journal of International Economics and the Economic Journal.
